Dear fellow animal rights activists,
as we all know, stray animals in Europe are in great distress. In spite of animal protection acts, they are being chased, slain and poisoned. In many parts of Europe, they are serving as an appreciated source of income and some people are quite literally "making a killing" from the suffering of the animals. All of us have been struggling for years to help those poor creatures, more or less each one for himself and with only little success.
We at Docs 4 Dogs have established a network for stray animals in Europe to help them on a political level. In our opinion, saving individual dogs and bringing them to Germany doesn't change anything. A sustainable and reliable change based on laws in each country itself would be the best solution for the animals - but this is only possible on a political level. Please visit the new website "STARS - Stray Animal Rights in Europe". STARS takes first action by launching a petition to EU-Parlamentarians — please support us with your vote!
What does this look like?
The goal that would need to be reached is obvious for each European state:
1.) No more killings or abuses of animals
2.) Spaying and neutering according to the standards of veterinary medicine for stray animals and pets alike
3.) Enforcement or adjustment of existing animal protection acts, including punishment in case of violations
4.) The right of local animal welfare organisations to supervise the application of the animal protection act must be statutory
Further points must be developed according to the situation in each country, as regional distinctions must be made.
Our concept:
In order to achieve anything on a political level, sending protest letters in a solo attempt won't suffice. It is necessary to develop a common strategy that extends over all European countries.
Our vision:
Phase I: We would like to develop a platform on the internet that describes each countries with respect to its problems concerning animal welfare, as seen through the eyes of the animal welfare organisations working in that country. New information related to each country will be published regularly.
Phase II: Animal welfare on a political level, based on the problems of each country.
We need from you:
1.) A report about the overall situation and particularities about the country in which you are active. (What is happening to the animals? What about the population? What about the politicians who are responsible?) Why is the situation in your country the way it is? What exactly is the problem in your country? How come the situation is so appalling? (Mentality, religious ideas, authorities, greed of gain...)
2.) A summary of the animal protection act and its interpretation (if available) and recommendations as to what needs to be improved. Also, an evaluation (penal system and controlling bodies provided or not) as to which articles of the animal protection act are constantly being undermined.
3.) One or more illustrated reports about violations of animal protection acts, inlcuding information about place and time. Picture are very important! These reports are supposed to show the atrocities occurirng frequently.
Do not forget: The success of this enormous endeavour depends on YOUR participation!!!
A large network of animal loving people, i.e. who want to ACT for them according to their means and capabilities, is the key to success.
We need connections to EVERY European country, at the moment urgently to France and Rumania and corresponding material.
Forward this information to friends.
As a supporting organisation of the project "Rights for stray animals in Europe", we need THE PRESS, CELEBRITIES, PROFESSIONALS and JURISTS, who are coming along with us on our rocky road to Brussels.
WE ARE TAKING A DECISION IN FAVOUR OF ANIMALS!
